Mother's Little Helper

July JiFFy!

Howdy-do!  It's time for another JUST FOR FUN challenge with my JiFFy girlfriends.  This month, brand new Dirty Girl, Julie, selected a scrumptious plaid, "Blueberry Hill," from We R Memory Keepers' Vintage Blue collection.  She kept it a secret and mailed it to the rest of the gang, then Alli revealed the image she selected: a comfy chair from PTI's Chair-ished set.  Most of the time, the image-picker sends out her selected image to everyone, but this month I told Alli to hold off -- Chair-ished is so cute and versatile, I had to have it for myself.

Here's my clean and simple July JiFFy...

Now just hold your horses.  I know what you're thinking.  "Clean and simple = lazy."  I've thought that before, myself.  But don't be such a snob.  Clean and simple really forces one to execute a good design.  No hiding underneath layers of cardstock and embellishments.  Why, I would be THRILLED to receive a CAS card from any of you!  Do you know how long it's been since I received some home-made happy mail?  AGES!  Are you feeling a wee bit guilty?  Well, you should.  Would it kill you to send me a card every now and again?  Or remember me in your nightly prayers?  Or put me in your will?  No.  It wouldn't...

So, card details:  The sweet chairs are paper-pieced and the edges of the layers have been inked in PTI's Vintage Cream ink.  I created a little paper ribbon embellishment and topped it with a sparkly PTI button and tied it off with a tiny bit o' twine.  The card is long-note sized (3.25"x6").

I {heart} Jen's SFYTT!

Long before I was ever on an 'official' design team, my good friend Jen del Muro asked if I wanted to be one of her first weekly sample makers for her Sketch For You To Try.  Back then, it was just me, Susan Liles, Shannan Teubner & Jen.  Now, in addition to Susan & Jen, there are quite a few stamping rock stars among the SFYTT Sisters -- some 'classic rockers' that you've long known & loved, and some rising stars that bring fresh enthusiasm to our crafty corner of the world.  And every month, Jen selects a fantastic guest to play along; I think we can all agree that in addition to being a stamping icon in her own right, Jen has a great eye for talent.

I'm simultaneously humbled and thrilled to announce that, with my papercrafting hiatus behind me, I'm once again joining the SFYTT Sisters to bring you my own warped take on Jen's Saturday sketches.  I'll try to live up to the awesome company I'm keeping, and if I can't do that?  Well, hopefully I can provide comic relief and/or serve as a dire warning...

This week's SFYTT is being sponsored by AMBER INK!  I know you've seen Amber Alvarez's delightful illustrations before.  But now, rather than slaving away over a hot drawing board (I have no idea what a drawing board is, but if anyone uses them, it must be an illustrator, right?) for someone else, she's got her BRAND NEW, VERY OWN line of stamps, digi-images, and digi-papers!  Go, Amber!  Girl power!

Aren't those bunnies just precious?  They were printed out on Georgia Pacific white cardstock (the cheap stuff you can get at WalMart), and colored in with Copics.  The side carrots are Amber's, too.  The sentiment is from MFT's Jolinne - Just for You set.

You'll notice that one SFYTT Sister -- Megan Lock -- is missing from the above list.  Why?  Well, she has an excellent excuse.  Just this week, she gave birth to sweet baby Emma Grace!  Naturally, she'll be taking a few weeks off to enjoy her little miracle and (hopefully) to catch a tiny bit of sleep when she can.  Be sure to stop by her blog and give her a little love, and congratulate my fellow Oklahoma transplant on the birth of her bona-fide Native Okie!  As the mother of two of my own, I feel validated when another stamper gives birth to a Sooner. 

Dirty Green Tea With Lemon

Here's the sample I created for my sweet friend Kim Hughes' Dare to Get Dirty Clean and Simple Challenge.  For all of the challenge details, you'll need to visit this thread on Splitcoast.  It's been a long time since I made a CAS card, but I'm thinking I need to do more of them.  I really like the crisp, uncluttered feel to this. 

I'm also totally charmed by Toni's Tea Set, one of the three new tea-themed sets released this week by The Cat's Pajamas.  This versatile little set is going to see a lot of love around my house, I guarantee you!  The images are so swanky/sweet -- it doesn't get better than that, as far as I'm concerned.

TCP's Summer Blog Hop!

Last night's release party was such fun, and so many TCP lovers came out winners!  I love it when that happens.  And today? Everyone is a winner, because a) it's TCP Tuesday, and b) all of the new sets and embellishments are finally available!

Doesn't PJ look cute in his little apron?  He's wood-paneled, by the way, with TCP's Paper Thin Wood Veneer in birch.  I got both tones to his fur from the same sheet of wood... check it out!  That's what I call versatile...  Speaking of versatility, some folks (even Alma) have referred to PJ as a 'she.'  I don't think so.  You know, I talk to my stamps and they tell me things.  PJ said he's a dude, but very in touch with his feminine side.  He has a beautiful collection of aprons, which I'm sure you'll be seeing as people put this set to good use.

This time, rather than chattering away incessantly, I'm just going to let the work speak for itself.  You know that image is awesome, I know that image is awesome; need we talk it do death?  You see the love in that card: those little guys, bravely facing their tempest in a teacup, together.  Fending off those FABULOUS waves, created with the new TCP Wave Cut-Ups die.  If a picture is worth a thousand words, then why am I still typing?  Habit, I suppose...

MFT's Greatest Hits featuring Amanda Baird!

Here's something I like to let everyone know each and every time I used one of the sets from My Favorite Thing's fabulous illustrator, Amanda Baird: SHE'S MY NEICE!!!  What can I say?  I'm a proud aunt...

Amanda's been designing for Kim (The MFT Lady) for over a year now, and just this week, MFT has released an exciting new line -- the à la modes -- that Amanda illustrates.  You really need to check 'em out because they're that rare combination of cute and classy.  I may be a little biased, but I truly believe they are going to be the next big thing in stamping.  I can't wait to play with them!

Anyway, with all that synergy going on, it's perfect that the Amanda Baird collection is featured for this month's MFT's Greatest Hits.  Lots of gals from MFT's amazing Design Team and DT Alumni are playing along; head over to Kim's blog for a full list of all the participants so you can see all the AB goodness for yourself.

As for me, I chose to play with what may be my favorite from Amanda's line so far.  It should come as no surprise whatsoever to you that it's... PARTY GIRL!

Wasn't it sweet of Amanda to create this image with her dear old auntie in mind?!  Very thoughtful of her to give my bottom full coverage and recall my penchant for wearing full-length gloves whenever the opportunity arises.  She exaggerated a bit with the length of my hair, but hey.  I'm not one to quibble over details...

Party Girl was colored in with Copic Markers and trimmed out.  I used Jen's Sketch For You To Try from last Saturday (I *love* having a great sketch to work with so I don't have to fully tucker my poor ol' brain out, and Jen's got the best).  I didn't want the red velvet brads to get lost near the red border of the background layer, so I added partial kraft circles underneath them so they'd pop a bit more.  The yummy patterned paper is by Hambly Screen Prints, and the red is actually silk-screen on the shimmery/slick aqua paper.

A Sneaky Peek at ... Penguins!

Today's featured Sneaky Peek set: GOOD FRIENDS

Today's designated 'flashers' are: Leigh, Ana, & Me!

Everybody loves TCP's adorable trio of penguins.  In fact, there's a current thread in our Splitcoast Member Company forum where folks are sharing what they call them.  Me?  I've always thought of 'em as Larry, Darryl & Darryl.  I don't speak penguin, so I'm not sure of their official names.  I figure they'll let us know when they're ready.

In the meantime, here's what they've been up to...

Awww... doesn't their supportive friendship melt your heart?  I gotta say, I LOVE every single thing about this set!  I know I say that about all of TCP's sets, but this one?  Just gets me.  I'm not too highbrow to admit that I ADORE watching TV.  Give me a healthy serving of any of the Law & Orders (though Criminal Intent is my favorite.  I'm in deep mourning over the departure of Vincent D'Onfrio, aka my beloved Bobby Goren), some Mad Men/Big Love, and a dash of either Project Runway or Top Chef, and I'm a pig in slop.  Or a penguin in the above scenario...

Enough about my bad habits.  Let's talk about those cute little embellies at the bottom: they combine two of TCP's new CUT-UPs dies, Buttons and Flower Buttons.  Your days of searching for buttons to perfectly match your cardstock are over thanks to these two ingenious new dies!  Holla!  All parts of the image were paper-pieced, and then highlighted here and there with Copic markers.

A Twine-y TCP Tuesday!

Today's official Sneaky Peek set of the day: A WHALE OF A TIME

Today's Hipster Hostess with the Mostest is my aforementioned good friend Amy, and as everyone knows, that gal has her finger on the pulse of all that's hip & trendy in the paper crafting universe.  It was just a matter of time before she gave us the supply challenge to get all tied up in TWINE!

So, here's my card using the niftiest twine ever: TCP's Divine Twine.  Also nifty?  The fact that I'm giving you an early lookie-loo at one of the sets being released next week -- Forget About the Cake!

I used Lemon Divine Twine to hand stitch around the background layer border, and to wrap up a few felt birthday candles. Mr. Bunny was paper-pieced using TCP's new wood paper in White Birch (this is the greatest wood paper, too -- much thinner than the stuff I've used before, so it's easier to cut and paper-piece with). 

And since you're so nice to come and visit me today, I'm going to let a couple more cats out of the bag:

1.  TCP is releasing its own line of dies: Cut-Ups!  Naturally, they are to die for!  The candle flames on my felt candles were created using the petal section of the Flower Buttons die.

2.  Did I mention felt?  TCP is releasing its own felt collections!  All sorts of yummy colors that cut like a dream.  The candles and flames were cut from shades of the Orange You Glad, Seeing Red, Singing the Blues and Green with Envy collections.  (Gotta love those names.)

TGI TCP Tuesday on Friday!

I'm a wee bit late with my TCP Tuesday endeavor this week, but I can explain... I had a test and a paper due in my 'Personality Theory' class.  Let me tell you, taking 6 hours over 8 weeks in a summer?  Is a J-O-B!!!  Fortunately, however, the subject matter is interesting (Personality Theory and Abnormal Psychology), which keeps it from being totally drudgery.  Oh, that reminds me!  I have good news on the academic front: last week I was officially accepted into the master's program I applied to!  So, I know for sure what I'll be doing every Monday and Wednesday evening for the next 3 years. :)

Now, where was I?  Oh, yes!  TCP Tuesday!  Once you see the colors Joanne selected for this week's challenge, you'll understand why I had to take a "Better Late Than Never" approach -- they are right up my brightly hued alley!  Check 'em out:

Doesn't that whale just make you smile?!  It's from a set called A Whale of a Time, and it's PERFECT for paper piecing.  I've spied what a few of the other gals in the Cat Pack have done with it, and can I just say?  Hold on to your hats.  Next week -- TCP's official SNEAKY PEEK WEEK -- is going to blow that bonnet right off your pretty little head.  In all probability, it will also knock your socks off.  In fact, you just might want to call in sick for work and cancel all appointments for the week since it's very likely to render you flat-out naked.  Hear me now and believe me later!

Back to my humble offering -- I utilized this week's Mojo Monday sketch and turned it on its side.  The sunny little whale was paper pieced, her green sea was colored with Copics, and her pink sky was shaded using the Copic airbrush system.  Please note the scrumptious Black Licorice Divine Twine.  The sketch is Julee's MojoMonday 146.

Happy Birthday, Kim!

For those of you who visit me frequently (I love you dearly, by the way, and applaud your intelligence and excellent taste), you know that one of my favorite people -- in both stamping and 'real' life -- is none other than Kim van der Sanden, otherwise known as The MFT Lady.  Kim's birthday is July 5th, and a few of us a throwing her a Surprise Birthday Blog Hop a few days early.  Don't you just love surprises? I do, and I know Kim does, too.

I could literally write a book about what a wonderful person Kim is.  She is generous to a fault, has a keen sense of humor, is smart, funny, and a blast to hang out with.  She's got to be one of the easiest people in the world to talk to -- I have spent countless hours on the phone with her: laughing, crying, and everything in between.  She's a terrific business woman, a great mom, and the best friend a gal could ask for.  In short, she is my sister of the heart.

Please note the extensive hand-stitching of Lemon Divine Twine all around the background panels.  Yes, it was time consuming, but by golly, Kim, you're worth it!  My card features MFT's adorable Pure Innocence Birthday Princess, as well as MFT cardstock in Gumdrop Green and Berrylicious.  The patterned paper is from Cosmo Cricket's 6"x6" DeLovely pad.  Lil' Kim (hee) was colored Copics, has pink patent leather shoes courtesy a pink Glaze pen, and a sparkly crown covered in Hot Kiss Ultrafine Transparent Art Glitter.

Did you hear the latest-greatest?!  THE CAT'S PAJAMAS is now a SPLITCOASTSTAMPER'S MEMBER COMPANY! 

Yep, it's true!  Sprinkle and SCS have gone & gotten hitched!  I, for one cannot think of a more perfect union than the world's swankiest stamp company and the world's #1 stamping website/community.  Why not stop by TCP's Member Company Forum to congratulate the happy couple?
