The Cat's Pajamas ~ Blog Hop!

Hi, everyone!  I hope you're enjoying this New Release Blog Hop, brought to you by the swankiest company in all of stamping, The Cat's Pajamas.  If you're an obedient little hopper (and Santa's watching, you know...), then you should have started at newly-minted Dirty Girl JULIE'S blog then hopped along at a few lovely stops before coming my way via the always-awesome AMY.

You've seen some amazing projects so far, and there are many more to follow.  Rather than interrupt your flow with my chatter, I'm going to start 'showing' and stop 'telling'...

I made a cute little wreath ornament out of two of The Cat's Pajamas lovely new colors of SEAM BINDING (Cranberry & Evergreen) and used the new J*LLY H*LIDAY set with some of TCP's white shrink plastic to creat a mini-wreath tag. 

Here's how to make one for yourself.

First, get some floral wire, or other thin wire that you can easily bend:

Next, wrap the wire a few times around a cup or other round object to form the base of the wreath. (Mine is about 3" in diameter.)

Cut you seam binding using pinking shears.  I cut mine into lengths of three inches and double-tied them as I went. 

Start tying them around the base, and don't worry if it looks a little shabby before it starts getting fluffy. This step takes a little time, so be sure you put on a good movie like "The Muppets Christmas Carol" or "Elf" to help get the Christmas spirit flowing.

Before you know it, you'll have your own mini-wreath to hang from your tree and enjoy for years to come.

And here's a close-up of the tag. 

I used TCP's CIRCUS PANELS CutUps die to shape the tag, then stamped out the sentiment and colored it it with Copic markers.  Then, I heated the shrink paper with my heat gun and it shriveled and bent, then straightened out again at a wee one-inch long.  Magic!

Ready for another look-see at a new set being released on Tuesday by The Cat's Pajamas?  Of course you are!  Fans of PJ the Bear, rejoice!  He's coming your way and bearing presents!

The new PEEKING set is PERFECT for gift tags, don't you agree?  My gift tag was inspired by one my friend Jen sent me for my birthday this year.  Here's a close up...

I colored PJ with Copics, paper pieced his gift, and gave his bow a little razzle-dazzle with a coat of Key Lime Translucent Art Glitter.  PJ's feet, gift, hands/paws, and the cute little '4U' tag have all been popped up on foam boosters. 

There's lots of room to add a note on the back of the tag.  After it's done its duty adorning a gift, it can be repurposed as a Christmas ornament and hang from the tree for years to come.

Happy Saturday! Did you get a lot of shopping done yesterday? I did lots of online shopping; I'm not much for braving those Black Friday crowds...

Anyway!  It's time for this week's Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps challenge.  The fabulous KERRY is our Hostess, and in keeping with this week's Thanksgiving holiday, she's challenging us to create a Thank You card. One can never have enough Thank You cards...

I used the new WEDNESDAY image - one of Annie Rodrigue's Gothic Girls.  Isn't she a cutie?  I colored her with Copics, paper pieced her skirt, and shadowed her with Prismacolor pencils and odorless mineral spirits.  The patterned paper is from My Mind's Eye's 12 Days of Christmas 6"x6" pad, and the cute felt flower was created using Lil Inker Design's Fringe Flower Die.

Sneaky Peek: Best Fishes!

Happy Thanksgiving, friends! {at least to those of you in the U.S.} I hope you have a day filled with family, friends, food & fun. Football, too, if that's your thing.  Me?  I don't plan on watching football if I can at all avoid it.  Instead, I'll be on the road for about 5 hours total, stopping by Sean's aunt's house for about an hour and a half for lunch.  Carter will be leaving from the lunch with his grandparents to spend the weekend with them.  My goal for the weekend is to get as much decorating as possible done while he is gone.  It'll be fun to see the look on his face when he gets home to a festive wonderland...

Enough about me.  Sneaky Peek Week continues, feauturing the upcoming new releases from the swankiest company in all of stamping, The Cat's Pajamas. I do love that sentiment, don't you?  (And - fun fact to know and tell - 'crappie' rhymes with 'hoppy,' not 'happy.') I LOVE crappie - it's really a delicious little fishie.

  

In addition to the new Anywhere Ribbon Slide, my card showcases the Big Scallop and Circus Panels CutUps dies. I also used Spellbinders' 2011 Heirloom Ornament Nestabilities for the image panel.  The patterned paper is from Echo Park 6"x6" pads (Holly Jolly Christmas & Season's Greetings).

TCP Tuesday ~ Two Ways

Do you ever watch Top Chef? Inevitably once during the show, some cheftestant will say, "I'm serving scallops (or whatever) two ways..."  Well, I'm serving up this week's TCP Tuesday Challenge two ways.  But first, did you realize that it's

So many ways you can go with this one... but I chose SNOW!  And I used yesterday's Sneaky Peek set, SNOW DAYS, two ways, as I mentioned before. 

Here's my first version, for those of you on Santa's nice list...

Notice Mr. Bunny's snowy background.  That was created using the new SNOWFLAKE LACE PAPER CutUps die, which you are definitely going to NEED.  I also used it to create the background paper in the detail layer, along with raspberry swirls, made with the yummy ICING CutUps die.

    

Nice kids, you can quit reading now.  I don't want to offend your delicate sensibilities.

Okay, naughty peeps.  Now that it's just us, I can show you my permanent version of this card.  On occasion, Alma gives me a glimpse of the upcoming images and I brainstorm various sentiments.  Here's the above sentiment as I originally submitted it...

(To create 'my' version of the sentiment, I inked up the 'BALL', stamped it out, drew an 'S' with pencil, went over it with a black pen, and then inked up the exclamation point and stamped it after the 'S'.  Easy peasy!)

You may be asking "But who would you ever send that card to?"  The better question to ask, however, is "Who would I NOT send this card to?"

Krafty Peeks, Day 3

Hola, hombres! It's one of my favorite stampy days of the month: the first reveal of Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps' new Moonlight Whispers images, illustrated by the crazy-talented Annie Rodrigue. This month, Annie has a collection of GOTH GIRLS for you to know and love. These'll be all the rage with the teenaged girls to whom you send cards - I guarantee it! (<-- please say like the guy in the Men's Wearhouse commercials)

Since it's Saturday, it's also time for this week's Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps Challenge (#105), and because it's release week, we have a Sketch Challenge for you. Our hostess and sketch creator is none other than PRECIOUS PAM, and here's the sketch she's put together to inspire you:

I have to say, that sentiment cracks me up, and I can't wait to send this card to an old friend. Jennifer and I got back in touch via Facebook. We went to high school together (she's a couple of years older than me, and I was really good friends during HS with her little sister) in Barstow, CA. Yet, somehow, both of us have ended up in northeastern Oklahoma. She now lives about an hour away from me, and get this: her family business is a mushroom farm! I think she'll get a kick out of this. :)

Mojo Monday # 215

Well, hello there!  Have you missed me?  I've been taking a little breather this past week.  A mental health break, so to speak. Not that I've been stamping/blogging my fingers to the bone lately, but most of my recent 'pauses' have been caused by circumstances from outside.  This one was just because I wanted to, and now I feel refreshed.  Aaah!

(I would insert a smiley here, but I have a new computer - yay!  a new 27" iMac... heaven! - and can't recall my login info to my smiley source... All that new stuff with a new computer = time consuming, you know?  But I lurve my beautiful new iMac.  It's worth the PITA all that transitioning takes.)

Anywhodle, you know what today is, correct?  Monday!  And for us stampers, "Monday" is not merely Monday, it's MOJO MONDAY!!!

I was feeling warm & cozy, so here's what I created with it, using pieces of Your Next Stamp's fun new Happy Holidays Stamps & Dies set:

Don't you love those steaming mugs of... somethin'?  From the stamped images, it looks a bit like hot coffee, but in the evening, my hot beverage of choice is sugar-free hot cider.  Mmmm!  I searched high & low through my stash for the patterned paper - I KNEW I had some mug paper somewhere.  Know where I found it?  In my 12" x 12" collection of Halloween paper.  Go figure.  Anyway, it's by Karen Foster, and must be several years old, but it's cute, no?  As are the adorable cut out mugs from YNS - here's a detail shot...

Aren't those dies fabulous?  I'm thinking Karen needs to make some other seasonal mugs to coordinate with the dies, don't you agree?  That way, us coffee, tea & cider drinkers can really get our $$$ worth.  Think Valentines, Easter, Autumn, and so on.  Good idea, huh?!  Karen, are you taking notes? ;)

For my corner embellishment, I took a cue from the patterned paper and bundled up some cinnamon sticks in a little scarf, reminescent of the ones my BSF Amy has made in the past.

At first, I had just a plain yellow felt scarf with an olive button and some Cherry Divine Twine, but it just didn't do it for me.  I decided the scarf need to be striped to bring out more of the olive and cranberry tones, and wa-la!

Mojo Monday #214

Howdy, peeps!  Are you feeling rested afer gaining an hour yesterday with the end of Daylight Savings Time?  I've got to say, I've always loved this time of year, when it gets dark early.  Isn't that weird?  There's just something cozy to me about fall/winter evenings when it's dark at 5:30 p.m. and the family is together at home. Snug as four bugs in a rug.  Of course, leaving for class when it's dark outside will be a bummer, but you've got to take the bad the with good, right?

Speaking of good, I've got this week's Mojo Monday Sketch (#214) to share!  Here you go...

And speaking of taking the bad with the good, as I mentioned in my last post, I'm in need of another sympathy card. :(  Here's how I interpreted this week's sketch, using the Simply Said set and the Circus Panels CutUps dies from The Cat's Pajamas:

I love the way the Circus Panels CutUps can be dressed up or down.  So versatile! I kept the card clean and simple on purpose, as Sean will be writing this one and I didn't want it to be too feminine.  The patterned papers are all from Authentique's Gathering 6"x6" pad; cardstock is PTI's Aqua Mist and Prism's Suede Brown Dark. The top embellishment is a Spare Parts (Hobby Lobby) ribbon brad tied off with velvet ribbon.  Easy-peasy.  I think this card took me all of a half-hour to make (which is SUPER quick for slow-poke me).

This is the 3rd sympathy card I've made of late; keep your fingers crossed it will be the last for a good, long while.  I've seen several of my fellow Mojo Makers gorgeous interpretations, though, and fortunately they're all happy cards. :)  So go take a look at 'em by visiting:

November Sketch For You To Try

It's November - have you started your Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza/Festivus shopping yet?  I actually have, believe it or not.  Not any of the 'big' stuff, though; just the easy ones.  But still, it's a start...  And speaking of starts, you know the start of every month brings another fabulous SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY (aka SFYTT) by my great friend, Jen del Muro. 

 

And, as if that isn't enough in it's own right, we've got an equally fabulous sponsor this month, the oh-so-elegant and just plain cool, VERVE STAMPS!

For years now, Verve Stamps have been my 'go-to' images when I need to do what I refer to as 'Class Act Stamping.'  Everyone needs a little class at the ready, don't you think?  Well, for me: it's Verve.  And it has been, ever since I had the good fortune of being a Verve Diva, many moons ago.  You know what I learned then?  Verve's owner/illustrator, JULEE TILMAN is a class act, too.  No wonder, is it?  To paraphrase Forrest Gump, classy is as classy does.  I'm thrilled that I once again am able to play with Julee on a regular basis as a member of her Mojo Monday design team.  Believe me when I tell you that Julee is 31 flavors and then some + a bag of chips.

Sadly, I'm in need of a class act sympathy card.  I received this STUNNING one from Jen in the mail earlier this month (in which she used Verve Stamps, naturally), and since there was no way in world I could improve upon it, I CASE'd it as best I could, using this month's sketch and the materials I had on hand:

I used a trio of sets to create this (Kind Words, Hope Blooms, and Bloom & Grow), as well as the Elegant Leaves A Cut Above die.  I trimmed out the flowers by hand so that I could leave a little margin of Baja Blue cardstock, and then centered them with some gem brads I've had in my stash forever.

Warning: What follows is non-stamping related. It's kind of sad, so proceed with caution, and skip altogether if you want.  You won't hurt my feelings a bit...

This card was made for a good friend who lost her father this week in a terrible car accident.  It's especially sad, because both of her parents are elderly, and her father was more or less taking care of her mother.  I know she and her family are going to have to face some very hard decisions in the coming weeks, in addition to grieving their loss.  

During the course of making this card, I learned some terrible news: a good friend of ours from law school suffered a stroke in her sleep earlier this week, and she isn't going to make it.  Judy is my age - just 42.  She is general counsel to our Governor, and Sean was delighted to reconnect with Judy and be able to work closely with her, since Gov. Fallin was inaugerated this past January.  If you are the praying kind, please keep Judy's friends and family in your prayers. 

Perhaps it's because I'm still riding the waves of my own grief about my mom that I'm more in tune with the hardships that others are enduring, but, man: it sure seems like there is more suffering going on these days than usual.  Whether that's true or not, I'm learning that the best way to move through difficult days is to allow yourself to feel sad and be with those emotions.  Then, embrace your loved ones and be grateful that you have people to love who love you back. 

Thank you for reading this, and reading my blog, in general.  It really means a lot to me that there are folks out there who enjoy what I make and take time to read what I write.

Support The Economy!

Hello, hello!  I know I've been absent from the blogosphere for a while; I've been sicker than a dog this week, but after a Z-Pak and several nights of cough syrup with Codeine, I'm feeling more like myself.  I don't usually get sick (I'm a good hand-washer and generally have hearty constitution), but when I get run down... it ain't pretty.  For various reasons, this has been a rougher than usual month, so I'm not surprised to have been knocked down physically, too.  When it rains, it pours, right?

Fortunately, as my gal 'Annie' always sings, I'm a big believer that the sun'll come out tomorrow... (ordinarily, I'd pop a video in here for you to watch the great Andrea McArdle show you what I'm talking about, but, again - I'm still not at 100%).

And in Annie's optimistic vein, I've created my card for today's Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps Challenge: PUT A PIN IN IT!  My good buddy, MICHELE, is today's Krafty Hostess, and she's come up with this prickly, perfect challenge.  Here's what I've created, using one of Tim Holtz's Memo Pins to fulfill the challenge requirements:

The image I've used is the new Moonlight Whispers' Everyday Girls image, SARAH SHOPPER.  In keeping with her sentiment, I used October Afternoon's 5 & Dime patterned paper.  Here's a close up of Ms. Sarah...

Sarah was colored with Copics and her hair was highlighted with Prismacolor pencils.  Her dress and bags were paper pieced. Then, she was trimmed out and popped up with Jody's fabulous Foam Boosters.  I seriously could not live without those in my arsenal.  I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch as my blueprint.  Gotta love Julie's sketches!
