Every once in a while, I get a hankering to try a challenge I've never done before. I had a spare hour or two early this afternoon, so I spied with my little eye the latest Freshly Made Sketch Challenge and decided to give it a whirl. Here's what it looks like:
And here's what I made with it, using a fun new-to-me stamp set by Lawn Fawn called BLUE SKIES and some sweet, sunny papers from Echo Park's A Perfect Summer 6"x6" patterned paper pad:
I hand drew the horizontal-ish lines on the balloon so I could color it in that tiled-rainbow look that so many hot air balloons have. Did I ever tell you that I've ridden in a hot air balloon? It's true. My roomate during the summer between my freshman and sophmore years of college was a sorority sister of mine named Nancy. Her parents were very active in the hot air balloon community in NE Oklahoma, and one weekend we went to visit them. Guess where they lived/live? None other than my current hometown of Claremore, America! Anyway, upon visiting them, they took me up in their hot air balloon, and afterward subjected me to what is apparently a ballooning ritual where champagne and dirt is poured in the deflowered balloon virgin's hair.
I've never heard of that tradition before or since. It could be that Nancy and her family were pulling my leg...
Anyway, I hope you're having a great weekend. The temperature is unseasonably nice here today - only 86 degrees! - so I think that the hubster and I are going to hit the pool for a little kid-free R & R.
(Picture me thusly but with a beverage in hand. Naturally!)
Supplies used from i {heart} papers:
What a bright and happy card! I love how you drew in the pattern on the balloon, and how everything from the dsp to the sentiment all coordinate beautifully. I'm so glad you decided to give us a try at Freshly Made Sketches!
