Happy Saturday, sweet things! It's a beautiful, unseasonably not-sweltering August afternoon here in Claremore, America, and for that I am grateful. School started this past week, thank heavens. Mr. Truman in particular needs that routine to keep him grounded and from pinching my last nerve. Since classes resumed on Thursday, it's like I have a new kid in the house -- or rather, as if my sane, semi-sweet son has returned and Doogie Jekyll has disappeared.
Speaking of Truman, you have to indulge me. Here's the annual first-day-of-school picture of my handsome boys:
Carter is actually developing a less-goofy camera smile, after all these years! Truman is a junior and Carter is in third grade. I've only got one more of these photo sessions with both boys -- now that is hard to believe, and despite how ornery Truman has been over the past several months, it makes me a little teary-eyed.
Maybe I've got it all wrong. Maybe this 'new and improved' Truman is the imposter, and my real son is locked up in the attic. Get this: the taller kid in the photo approached me yesterday for some cards so that he could write thank you notes to several people who have helped/mentored him over the summer.
I know, right? So, I retrieved a few out of my stash, but I noticed that I don't have many all-purpose cards that aren't too girly should he need more in the future. I set out to remedy that this morning, and made a trio of cards using Flourishes FABULOUS Just My Type stamp set, available at i {heart} papers. It's a subway-style sentiment set, and I truly adore each of the four images. It's one of those sets that I know I'm going to use every single stamp in (I don't know about you, but that doesn't happen that often with me).
I did a lot of Stamp-a-Majig-ing and taping off of the stamp before inking the various colors in order to stamp it in a rainbow effect. Lots of work, but I like how they turned out. I supposed I could have just cut up the sentiment to avoid having to tape it off so often, but that seems sort of sacrilegious. The bright and fun patterned paper is from Basic Grey's Kneehighs 6"x6" pad.
i {heart} papers also has a fun selection of sequins, and I used a few black ones to spice up a corner. Yes, I know what you're thinking: rainbow colors, ribbon and sequins? For cards for a boy to use? Yes. Say it with me, now: rainbows, ribbon, and sequins are gender neutral! Learn it, live it, love it.
Better yet, do what I do! I am, as you know, a paragon of virtue and a living, breathing example of the following...
Have a good weekend, my people! :)
