... this is my last partisan/political stamping post for at least the rest of this calendar year, and quite possibly 2013, too. Truly, I think ALL of us in the USA are sick, sick, sick unto death of this year's presidential campaign. And yet, I have a super cute (to me - probably not to some/many of you) Donkey image by Gourmet Rubber Stamps from i {heart} papers that I want to use before Tuesday's election. So bear with me, readers.
Alrighty! Shall I get down to business and show you this week's Mojo Monday sketch? Okay, then, here it is:
It's a goodie, don't you think? Here's what I came up with for it, using the abovementioned Donkey image and Paper Smooches' Alphadot set for the sentiment.
GOTV is 'campaign' speak for 'Get Out The Vote' - the effort campaigns make to ensure registered voters actually take the time and make the effort to go and vote on election day. This card represents my personal cyber GOTV to make sure you do the same, whether you're a member of the GOP or prefer to stamp the rooster (more campaign speak: to 'stamp the rooster' is to vote straight Democrat). And if you're still undecided? I really can't fathom that, but just in case, take this card as a sign of what the Universe/your conscience/the Force intends you to do. {hee - I'm sure my stamping and blogging has influenced MILLIONS to see the world my way...}
I shall now talk about the above card on its artistic merits. Ahem! First I stamped out the top half of the donkey with VersaMark, then heat embossed it using Stampendous Blue Tinsel embossing powder. Then, I followed with the bottom half, stamping it out in VersaMark and heat embossing Stampendous Red Tinsel embossing powder. It's really pretty shiny...
It was only after all this stamping and embossing (which you know is kind of messy and a PITA, though I love the results of heat embossing) that I looked for my patterned paper. I found suitable coordinating papers in Basic Grey's 'Life of the Party' 6"x6" pad. Alas, they were kind of vintage/not-white, and I had stamped the image on Neenah Solar White cardstock, which is a very bright white. I didn't want to go through the whole heat embossing hassle again, so I pulled out my Pumice Stone Distress Ink, some Distress Ink Blending Solution (to lighten the ink), and set about trying to make the white cardstock shabby-chic-ish. I think it worked, but I was definitely out of my comfort zone.
This card, by the way, is dedicated to my stampy friend Libby (<--- actually short for 'Elizabeth' but might as well be short for 'Liberal,' in her case. She's one of my closest cyber-friends I have yet to meet. I vow to remedy that BEFORE the next presidential election! :) ).
Not only is this the Monday before tomorrow's big election, it's also the first Monday of the month, which means it's PRIZE WEEK for Mojo Monday participants; winners get to select a free Verve Stamps set! It's a tight race, and though - optimist that I am - I am CERTAIN that my preferred candidate will win, I promise you that I will neither gloat nor lick my wounds on this blog. Got too many irons in the fire - including a blog hop tomorrow morning! - for that sort of stuff. But, because this is my last shot, I will leave you with the following, just in case it sways you... ;)
